Focus Areas
Three areas of concentration.
Our first year of work is organized around three threats. Each bears on national security and on the conditions of civilian life.
Narrative Control
The contest over what a population believes is continuous and largely unseen. State and non-state actors shape information environments through platforms, intermediaries, and the selective release of fact.
We study how these efforts are built, how they reach their audiences, and where an open society is most exposed.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is entering intelligence work, critical infrastructure, and public administration faster than the institutions responsible for them can adapt. The risk lies in capability held by adversaries, in dependence on systems few people can inspect, and in decisions made faster than they can be reviewed.
We assess where that risk concentrates and what can be done before it is realized.
Media Warfare
Media is now an instrument of conflict in its own right, aimed at civilian populations as much as at governments or armed forces. Fabricated material, coordinated amplification, and the targeting of journalists weaken a society's capacity to respond in a crisis.
We document these operations and their effect on civil life.
